sbux in general is pretentious!

i hate this place.

i love the coffee.

its haute.

its greenery in its sign
reminds me of the greedy consumers that are guided by it.

venti mocha vanilla rasbarry half-caf, no foam, extra whip,non-fat lattes

thats all i make.

create the third place environment for the customers
my boss says...
i had to wait in drive-thru15 MINUTES, you need to do sum'thing about that customers say...

but I SAY:
park your flippin car.
bring your fat VENTI booty into the starbucks
and get an apron and make you a F^CKIN mocha latte.

i am done =D
had to vent.

READ A BOOK!

I have had several convos with my bestie, alex explaining my desire to learn. You ever heard of a freelance writer? well, i am a freelance learner. i question every damn thing, it is verrrrry hard for me to accept status quo, cuz i really don't believe in it.

I just graduated from college in may.

And it made me dumber.

Before I went on my quest for undergrad knowledge, I used to read. ALL THE TIME. Not just fictional afro-american novels by Eric Jerome Dickey or E. Lynn Harris. But novels by Micheal Crichton (who is a master-mind) and John Grisham. I was also into non-fiction about cultures, primarily Black American culture and African culture + history.

I was fondly obsessed with Egypt (I wanna wife Nefertit's breast, statue that is =) and the different tribes that inhabited the continent. I also thirst for info on the beginnings of the slave trade and how the Spanish started it but the Americans capitalized on it. And also on the stories that are often unheard of from the slave times. I love hearing about all the other Harriet Tubmans, Frederick Douglass, etc that went "unreconized." I also loved ready on Black beauty and how it has changed from the dawn of time and how it has influenced the rest of the world.

This brings me to this point:
I NEEDED A GOOD BOOK!

lol! As kids, as a means of punishment, my mom would NOT allow me and my bro to go to the library! We would get hella pissed, and then as I grew older, my friends thought I was a complete goober when I would expose this fact to them.

This raised a question--
Was I the idiot that loved literary masterpieces and craved them so or where those around me victims of a unintelligent society?

I know my friends are not stupid (the 2 I do have :) but I wondered nonetheless....

One day at the hairshop, I was reading Essence and there was an article about the book called For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow is Enuf. It is a choreopoem by Ntozake Shange and it is AMAZING...there are about 7-8 characters that move the story along. Each of them are noted as a color and from a different US city and talk about their experiences growing up Black in the 70s.

&&& I am pretty sure I am a feminist:

My bestie Alex reads this publication called Bitch: a feminist response to pop culture. In the magazine, there are articles written by Feminists that are meant to commentary on current events. I love it. It is a pub that is for the woman (or man...) that does not accept the status quo as is, they congratulate opinions based on sound reasoning and logic. The array of topics are spelendid, as they are not the same ol thing you read everyday in the newspaper or in dumb ass Cosmo (a magazine I have always hated).

Tengo trabajo--

Translated, it means I NEED TO WORK.

Being off some days is needed, but for 2 1/2 weeks?! Ah, that's a definate negative. In a desperate move for dough, I am back on my coffee grind, but it will only be for a LIMITED TIME, nothing long term....I do miss my Starbucks tho....

Me at my old sbux locale. Wow, my hair HAS grown--

Free weekly coffee/tea = my crack/cocaine to get me thru.

Free lattes= heaven!!
(still mad about them discontinuing Organic milk, hmph!)

Miller is fuckin up--big time!
Ol girl (my "boss" Rhonalie), is flunkin on me...she ain't scheduling me for shiiit!
$25/hr is what they pay and she being stingy. I have expressed my availibility THREE times, and she has yet to schedule me for anything! One nite, and my pockets will smile. Bitch, put me on the schedule lol...

Me at Miller last summer, i decided to return. $$$ talkin nice, but they slackin now--
ON ANOTER TIP--
Waffle House? Can I work there? I pretty much recieved an offer from the coveted breakfast haven to be the store mgr, makin sum serious cake...but is that me? my bf says naw....but i would do it...for the pocket full of green (as santogold said :). I would pretty much be the head cook, so I'd be serving sum pretty mean omelettes n shiiit. The only downside is that I am unsure what the pay truly is....its between 35-40k but with all the bonuses, it is possible (i think) to make 45k...

But Enterprise called me back today. I got an interview two fridays away! they talking $31k so imma lissen! lol. I just don't wanna get stuck not using this degree that i worked very hard for.

Money ain't important to me. It doesn't motivate me. But it is a neccessary tool that people need to get the things they both desire and need.

urrrmmm---that's it.

Let me go back to my poker game =]

Kelis on...Hoes & Housewives--

On a lazy Sunday I was flipping through the channels and stopped on Discovery. I was watching what I thought was a show about some cattle herder in Africa. He was talking to his family, friends and elders about being short something like seventy cows. I kept thinking, “wow this is intense. This guy needs more cows.” Then a baby-faced beauty came into frame and it was all clear. The young man was short on cows for his dowry to marry this woman. Her parents and elders wanted to make sure he would care and provide for her, so the young man was doing whatever it took. I guess he doesn’t listen to “Gold Digger” on the radio. I started to think about other cultures like India and the caste system.

A man’s social status and finances are scrutinized when being considered for an arranged marriage. In European history, matrimoney combined wealth and land, made heirs, and started and stopped wars. For centuries, people around the world have married for power, wealth, and convenience. It was a transaction of resources, in many instances love came after.

An author named Leslie Bennetts wrote a book titled The Feminine Mistake about educated career women giving up their “lives” to raise families and keep households. I think the phenomenon is interesting. If we expect financial security from our husbands, is it then acceptable for wives to lose our selves in marriage and family? Can a woman actually have it all, or is that fighting against a predestined natural imperative? I hear women, real working women, who are smart and great say there are no good men left. In many instances decent, successful men have made their beds and now have to lie in them, (usually with some hoe). Successful women, who aren’t necessarily willing to be strictly a hoe or a housewife, are being lost in the shuffle, while (admittedly quite skilled) strippers are clapping their asses for ballers or posers who make it rain with a few singles.

Listen, power to the hoe. She can have them for all I care. They aren’t our concern. But pushing all skanks and groupies aside, can a real man tell the difference between a hoe and a good woman? Does he know what to look for? Does he even care to see a difference? And conversely, is it reasonable for a woman to only want a man who’s got his cows together? I mean, it is dictated by history that she has the right to expect that from her man. I’m as forward thinking a modern female as it gets. I’ve asked a bunch of questions, so here’s my take—leave the gold digging for the chickens and birds. Expect more than money ladies. A man and woman should be partners. In business, partners play different roles equally important to the success of that business. Life and marriage are no different. So for all the jaded negroes Kanye spoke for, I suggest you make a T-shirt ladies. Maybe the slogan could read something like:

“Dig this: I Got Your Gold Right Here!”

You 'Gettin Up'?

From FADER.COM:

Video: Q-Tip, "Gettin Up"
When Q-Tip came through the office several months ago to play us his already completed album The Renaissance, we left thinking it sounded like Amplified, only someone (Q-Tip) had learned how to transform the latter's monotone synth forays into the former's bonafide cosmic pop. Some of us were pretty excited about it. "Gettin Up" was not one of the songs he played and doesn't really fit into what we heard, but has been good for stirring up some yogurt and granola in the mornings. Just saying, don't get all mad when the rest of the record doesn't sound like yoga pants.

Hmmm.....What do YOU remember?!Share

Leave one memory that you and I had together. It doesn't matter if you knew me a little or a lot, anything you remember! Don't send a message, leave a comment on here. Next, re-post this in your notes and see how many people leave a memory about you. It's actually pretty cool (and funny) to see the responses. Repost as "memories."

June 9th 2006

I have been the road
That u used to travel on
Your tire tracks are implanted on
My soul
My face
My memories.

My soul is where you lived
But your soul didnt let me come in.

The tears on my face are physical reminders of
Your presence in my life.

The memories I have of us
Have gone flat.

You seem to have run out of gas
You seem to not be able to travel on my road
You look frustrated.

The road is marked
Under construction
No thru traffic.

There are things that need to change
For the road.

And it should start with the incoming traffic.

tonight...

so i need to lose weight.

can't be lost by travee.

i am pretty stubborn...i want to prove that i can lose weight without fearing that i would lose a man.

it's late.
lissen'n to john mayer.

i hate the new fb. it sux, as u may agree....

hmmm---is it demeaning for a college grad to be a store mgr of waffle house. ha ha!

i am goofy enuff to pull it off...

hmmmmmmmm. i feel soooooo inspired but at the same time, sooooo tired!
i wonder if i will be "allowed" to go to work tommorow. i guess we'll find out, won't we?!

byeeee

sooo---

in the matter of 5 minutes, i've changed the premise of this blog.

fashion will show up occassionally, but this blog will serve as a personal throat to voice my ideas/thoughts.

but here is um fashion looks i like (from style-spy.blogspot.com):

Hey!

I have noticed that over the years, I have been able to hit a trend before it became popular.

I know I am not the only one with this both keen &&& beautiful ability....just possibly the first to express it.

Ummm...I started a blog with my bf a few weeks ago (sinceighteensixtyfive.blogspot.com) about awakening your social conscious, and I wanted to do a blog on fashion.

But I didn't want people to get confused between the two blogs, so that is why i am under another gmail "name." When I recieved my wonderful issue of Missbehave the other day, my desire to approach the blog'o'sphere with my fashion vices was birthed.

So, *TADA!* Here I am !!!

This blog will not discuss CELEB fashion. Just fashion in general. If and when I get some people reading, if there is anything you want to see, message me....madame.pres.08@gmail.

(DISCLAIMER: i may use this blog as a personal diary/notebook, but nothing too personal, they lurkin'! lol :)

Okay. Get ready to FASHION UP!
